Thankful for ‘Los Padres del Dream Project’

It\’s that time of year to be thankful for the family, friends, and loved ones. As we prepare for our 9th Annual Holiday Dinner on Friday, December 13 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, I want to express my gratitude for our Parent’s Committee! The Dream Project would not be where we are without the support and dedication of this courageous and empowered group.

So… What is the Parent’s Committee?

Superhumans. Not only do the members of our Parents Committee work multiple jobs to support their children who face barriers to higher education, but they use their free time to support the fundraising efforts of the Dream Project. In fact, The Dream project was started by a small group of parents, students, educators, and community members discussing the college expenses for undocumented students. With one parent offering to cook, the Dream Project\’s first fundraiser was organized. To this date, the Dream Project and the Parents Committee have been able to award hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships to low-income immigrant students in Virginia.

At this very moment the Parent’s Committee has two fundraisers planned. They’re selling $10 raffle tickets for a chance to win a Prestige 60-quart pressure cooker, and they’re cooking NYE meals for $100. (If this has sparked your interest, do get in touch. Email info@dreamproject-va.org). The sky is the limit for them, because they believe that we will reach the stars!

Thank you ‘Madres y Padres del Dream Project’

Thank you to all the parents who taught us to love our roots. Thank you for working from early morning until late at night to provide us with meals and a roof over our heads. Thank you for reminding us to \”ponernos las pilas.\” Thank you for sacrificing everything you have in order to provide us with a better life.

Because of all that you are and all that you do, I felt it was important to dedicate this blog to thank our Parents this holiday season.
